Facade Cleaning

There is no need to put up with algae, green growth and a grey film. We gently clean rendered, brick and insulated (EWI) facades – with a long-term sealant on request.

A grey or algae-covered facade makes any house look older than it is – and reduces the value of the property into the bargain. The good news: in most cases there is no need to repaint. Professional facade cleaning restores the original colour for a fraction of the cost of a new coat of paint.

We use different methods depending on the surface: low pressure with hot water from a hotbox unit for delicate rendered and EWI facades (external wall insulation), adjusted pressure for brick and concrete. Hot water removes algae and green growth far more thoroughly than cold – and largely without chemicals.

On request we seal the cleaned surface afterwards. The sealant is water-repellent and delays the return of algae and moss by years. That keeps the result visible for a long time.

A well-kept facade is about more than looks, by the way: algae and moss hold moisture directly against the render, and constant damp is the start of many expensive structural problems – from frost spalling to damage to the insulation. Having the facade cleaned regularly may well save you a full renovation. First impressions also count when selling or letting: a clean facade immediately raises the perceived value of the property.

The best time for facade cleaning is spring or a dry autumn – that is when the subsequent sealant works best. While we work, we protect windows, doors, flower beds and fixtures, and we leave the property just as we found it. Except that the facade looks the way it did when you moved in.

What’s included

Rendered and EWI facades

Gentle hot-water low-pressure cleaning that does not damage the render – especially important with external wall insulation systems.

Brick and natural stone

Adjusted pressure and suitable methods for robust surfaces, without washing out the joints.

Removal of green growth and algae

Thorough removal of algae, moss and lichen – including on north-facing walls and weather-exposed surfaces.

Facade sealing

Water-repellent long-term sealant that keeps moisture out and considerably delays new growth.

Hotbox method

Mobile hot-water equipment up to 98 °C – removes organic dirt where cold water fails.

How it works

01

Facade check

We check the surface, the degree of soiling and the condition of the facade and choose the right method.

02

Test patch

If needed, we clean a small test patch so that you can see the result beforehand.

03

Cleaning and sealing if required

The entire surface is cleaned, with windows and fixtures protected. Sealing follows on request.

Frequently asked questions

Does cleaning damage the render?+

Not if it is done properly. On delicate surfaces we always work with low pressure and hot water instead of full high pressure. That is why we always carry out a facade check first.

How much does facade cleaning cost compared with repainting?+

As a rule of thumb: usually only a quarter to a third of the cost of a new coat of paint – with a result that often comes surprisingly close to fresh paint. We will give you the exact price after the on-site visit.

How long does the result last?+

Without sealant, a few years depending on the location; with sealant, considerably longer. North-facing walls and surfaces under trees naturally gather algae faster.

Do you need scaffolding?+

In most cases, no. With telescopic equipment we can reach normal house heights from the ground. That saves time and scaffolding costs.

What is the best time of year for facade cleaning?+

Spring to autumn, in frost-free and preferably dry weather. The facade then dries quickly and a sealant can soak in properly. Winter appointments are possible in mild weather, but we plan them with some leeway.

Do you also clean roofs?+

We only clean the roof surfaces themselves in exceptional cases and after an on-site visit – safety comes first there. Roof overhangs, verges, gutters and canopies, on the other hand, are a regular part of our work and combine well with facade cleaning.
